Addressing the challenges of prostate cancer radiobiology using the RadBank cohort

A key issue for prostate cancer radiobiology research has been access to tissue in which the molecular and immunological response to radiation can be assessed. Although tissue culture and animal models of prostate cancer exist, they all have particular deficiencies when compared to the human prostate microenvironment. We have now established a large tissue bank of matched pre- and post-HDR brachytherapy biopsies that enable comprehensive genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and immunological profiling of the radiation response, leveraging off our cases utilising multi-fraction HDR. The role of such tissues will be discussed.
