IORT for breast cancer with electronic brachytherapy (Xoft®) at the Monash Medical Centre: indications, clinical outcomes and economic analysis

Electronic brachytherapy is an emerging technology with certain advantages over radionuclides. We have been using the Xoft Axxent Electronic Brachytherapy System for 2 years in the setting of single fraction intra-operative high dose rate accelerated partial breast radiotherapy. This talk covers the indications for treatment, the practical aspects of therapy, the clinical outcomes of our prospective audit and an economic analysis of this technique compared to the standard of care.
